Kaskazi Kayaks offers sea kayaking adventures in Cape Town and surrounds and Gordon’s Bay. You can see pics from our trips here. We also offer a parents and kids special on Sundays – kids pay half price.
Kaskazi kayaks was born from the desire to explore the the Cape Coastline. Once we started we could not stop. South Africa has the most incredible coastline, from the dramatic sand and limestone mountains and cliffs covered by a unique Fynbos floral kingdom to the abundant variety of ocean life, this is the perfect destination to explore from a kayak. With uninterrupted 365 degree views, this is a trip not to miss!
Our guided kayak tours take place daily, weather permitting in comfortable and stable double touring kayaks.
The kayaks are just under 6 meters long and well designed to make even the novice paddler feel comfortable. An experienced kayak guide will accompany you to ensure your safety as well as take photos of your paddling adventure which you can view on Facebook and share with your friends.
No previous experience is required, the kayaks have a foot pedal rudder system controlled by the person sitting at the back of the kayak. This is ideal for sea kayaking since it is easier to learn and much safer if ocean conditions change. After meeting your guide, a few minutes of orientation and safety briefing on the shore, then once your kayak gear is fitted we set off in the direction the weather predicts.
The best thing about sea kayaking is that you don’t need to be kayak or paddling fit, since we often stop to take photographs or to look at the scenery and often there is sea life to view. We have been fortunate to spot a variety of majestic mammal life including Southern Right, Humpback and Brydes Whales, Dusky, Heaviside and Common Dolphins, Cape Fur Seals, non-harmful Jellyfish, Mola-Mola or sunfish, African penguins as well as occasional Pelagic sea birds.
All you are required to bring is comfortable beach wear (quick dry clothing is not essential but it is more comfortable) a towel and change of clothes for afterwards and sun protection such as a hat and sunglasses.
Our standard trips are approximately 2 hours long in which we cover a distance of between 5 – 10 km depending on sea conditions.
We can arrange shorter trips for younger children, our general age limit is 10 years and older, but if children are active and familiar with the ocean , please bring them along, we only paddle is safe conditions, so just let us know ahead of time if young children will be joining
Come and enjoy the peace, quiet and tranquillity that washes over you while out on the big blue ocean with Kaskazi kayaks.
The dolphin photo on this page was taken in December 2007. A group of Dusky dolphins escorted 3 paddlers from Clifton Beach all the way back to Three Anchor bay.
